Panionios climbed off the bottom of the Super League table for the first time this season on Saturday after clinching a crucial 3-0 win over fellow strugglers Panetolikos, who replace the Nea Smyrni club at the foot of the standings, while Larissa defeated Volos 2-1.

It was a glorious night for Nikos Papavasiliou’s Panionios side at the Nea Smyrni Municipal stadium, with the home side taking a 16th-minute lead through Bachana Arabuli.

Panetolikos battled bravely to try and get back into the game but they could not find an equaliser, and two late goals from Pedro Arce in the 80th minute and captain Panagiotis Korbos in the third minute of added time put some gloss on the scoreline.

The win lifted Panionios, who are now four matches unbeaten, above Panetolikos into 13th place with six points, meaning the Panthers moved off the bottom, sending Panetolikos to rock bottom with just four points from 11 matches.

Larissa come from behind to beat Volos

Larissa 1 - 1 Volos NFC
Fatjon (P) 57'
Dauda 84'
Torres 38'

In Larissa, the home side bounced back from last weekend’s defeat by PAOK at the Toumba with a stirring 2-1 come-from-behind victory over Volos at the AEL FC Arena.

Volos had taken a 38th-minute lead thanks to Joaquin Torres, and at half-time it seemed like Larissa were heading for a second successive defeat.

But a much improved second-half performance from the home side yielded goals from Fatjon Andoni and Abiola Dauda in the 57th and 84th minutes respectively to turn the game on its head and send the three points to Larissa.

It was a result which moved fourth-placed Larissa onto 18 points, while Volos, who had started the season so well, slip down to 11th place on 13 points.
