Petrounias to Miss World Championships
Eleftherios Petrounias will be unable to defend his title in the men’s rings at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships due to injury.

The 27-year-old announced via an Instagram post that he will be getting surgery for an injury he has sustained. Petrounias won gold at the last two World Championships in 2015 and 2017. In 2016, he won gold at the Olympics, as the World Championships are not held during Olympic years. Earlier this year, Petrounias won gold at the European Championships for the fourth straight year.
If all goes well with the surgery, Petrounias will be back and better than ever in 2019. With the European Championships in Poland and the World Championships in Germany awaiting him, the Greek will have chances to get back in form before the big 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
