It looks as though Podence’s days in Piraeus are over. Since joining Olympiacos from Sporting Lisbon in controversial circumstances during the summer of 2018, Podence has dazzled in Greece with his superb performances, standing out with his pace and ability to beat opponents for pure skill. However, it seems that Olympiacos fans will have to say goodbye to one of their key players, as several English and Greek media sources are suggesting that the Erythrolefki have agreed to offload Podence to Wolverhampton Wanderers for a reported sum of 25 million pounds.

The transfer is expected to be completed in the coming hours.

Podence’s agent, Jorge Mendes, is said to be pushing the deal through. An announcement is reportedly imminent.

Transfermarkt rates the 24-year-old’s value at six million euros.

In the 2019/2020 season, Podence has made 27 appearances across all competitions for Olympiacos, contributing with five goals and five assists. Podence incidentally scored against Tottenham Hotspur in the UEFA Champions League.

The energy, flair and talent provided by the diminutive Portuguese winger will be sorely missed by Olympiacos, who are preparing to face Arsenal in the UEFA Europa League in February. Olympiacos are currently leading the Super League by one point.

OLIVEIRA ALSO WANTED BY WOLVES

Podence might not be the only Portuguese player in Greece moving to Wolves.

Nelson Oliveira, who transferred to AEK last summer from Norwich City, is wanted by Wolves in the English Premier League. According to reports, Wolves have made enquiries about his availability, and it must be noted that Oliveira has a release clause amounting to 6.5 million euros in his AEK contract. It remains to be seen if Wolves decide to activate it.

Nuno Espirito Santo, a 45-year-old Portuguese manager, is the current head coach of Wolves.

So far, Oliveira has been a consistent performer in the Super League for AEK, registering nine goals and three assists in 15 matches. He is valued at 3.5 million euros by Transfermarkt.
