PANATHINAIKOS FINALLY WIN AT HOME

It took five attempts, but Panathinaikos have finally won a home match in the 2019/2020 Super League campaign. At one point, Panathinaikos were 2-0 down against Athenian rivals AEK at the Olympic Stadium, but they came roaring back in the second half to score three goals from Federico Macheda, Juan Jose Perea and Dimitris Kolovetsios and win 3-2. Previously, the Prasini had failed to beat either OFI, Olympiacos, Xanthi or AE Larissa at home, losing three of those games.

This was the first time since 2017 when Panathinaikos won a Super League derby against either AEK, Olympiacos or PAOK. Before Sunday, their last derby triumph was a 1-0 victory over Olympiacos at the Apostolos Nikolaidis Stadium on October 28, 2017. Between that win against Olympiacos and Sunday’s victory over AEK, Panathinaikos had not won in 13 successive derbies.

AEK IN TROUBLE

AEK, on the other hand, endured yet another miserable derby. The last time when AEK defeated either Olympiacos, Panathinaikos or PAOK was on April 1, 2018 as the Enosis beat the Prasini 3-0 at the Olympic Stadium in their championship winning campaign. AEK are without a derby victory in 600 days.

The Kitrinomavri lack any kind of confidence or belief in the key matches, something which was evident on Sunday evening as they caved in to Panathinaikos’ powerful late charge. Following the completion of the game, AEK supporters came to the hotel to express their fury at the performance, while Croatian forward Marko Livaja received a wave of criticism for his seemingly poor attitude on the pitch. AEK are nine points behind Super League leaders Olympiacos.

OLYMPIACOS CONTINUE WINNING IN PIRAEUS

The Karaiskakis Stadium is a true fortress. Ever since Olympiacos drew 1-1 with Panathinaikos at home on November 11, 2018, the Erythrolefki have won every Super League match in Piraeus - 15 consecutive home wins to be exact. Olympiacos comfortably defeated Atromitos 2-0 this weekend with two second-half goals from Daniel Podence and Hillal Soudani.

Olympiacos’ next home game is scheduled for December 1 against reigning champions PAOK. Interestingly, Olympiacos lost to PAOK in Piraeus last season, as Jagos Vukovic inadvertently scored an own goal. That defeat was ultimately crucial in the fate of the title.

PAOK SCORE IN 30 SUCCESSIVE AWAY GAMES

Remember the last time when PAOK didn’t hit the back of the net in a Super League away game? The date was November 5, 2017, when the Dikefalos tou Vorra conceded a 1-0 defeat to AEK at the Olympic Stadium. Since that loss, PAOK have scored at least one goal in every Super League match on the road - 30 on total -, with Josip Misic most recently registering a wonderful goal on Saturday in Heraklion to earn a hard-fought 1-0 win against OFI. The streak began on November 26, 2017 - a 2-2 draw at Panionios in Nea Smyrni.

PAOK are also now unbeaten in 45 consecutive Super League games, with their last loss in the championship having been conceded on March 4, 2018 - a 3-2 defeat against Asteras in Tripoli. Following that game, PAOK have not lost a single match in the domestic championship (only taking matches which weren’t abandoned into account) - 23 games without a loss at the Toumba Stadium and 22 matches without a defeat on the road.
