PAOK CLOSING IN ON PANATHINAIKOS SCORING RECORD

At the start of 2020, PAOK may have lost their unbeaten run when conceding defeat to Aris at the Kleanthis Vikelidis Stadium, but they are now within touching distance of another Super League record.

Following their routine 3-1 home triumph over Asteras Tripolis at the weekend, PAOK have now scored in 54 consecutive Super League games, with Panathinaikos currently holding the record of 57 successive matches with a goal between 1963 and 1965. Incidentally, if PAOK are to equal the record, it will be achieved in the game against Panathinaikos at the Olympic Stadium. PAOK’s next two league matches will be played against Lamia and Volos.

OLYMPIACOS CONCEDE TWICE AT HOME FOR FIRST TIME IN TWO YEARS

Aris conceded a 4-2 defeat to Olympiacos at the Karaiskakis Stadium, but they did achieve something which no Super League club had done in two years.

For the first time since February 2018, when AEK defeated Olympiacos 2-1 in Piraeus on their way to the domestic crown, the Erythrolefki conceded two goals in one Super League home game. In that particular match against AEK, Olympiacos were leading 1-0 until the closing minutes, when Dmytro Chygrynskiy and Giorgos Giakoumakis struck twice to snatch a vital victory for the visitors. On Sunday, Lindsay Rose scored in the first half for Aris, before Nicolas Diguiny grabbed another for the Thessaloniki club in the 83rd minute.

Olympiacos have won all four Super League encounters against Aris since the latter began playing in the top division again in the 2018/2019 campaign.

It was also the first time in the 2019/2020 league season when Olympiacos conceded more than one goal in one match.

PANATHINAIKOS WIN CONSECUTIVE LEAGUE GAMES AGAIN

Panathinaikos are back in business. Playing with confidence, the Prasini have enjoyed a positive January so far, notably embarking on a dramatic comeback against PAS Giannina in the Greek Cup before notching a well-needed 1-0 victory at Xanthi which took them up to fourth spot in the table.

Interestingly, Panathinaikos have won two Super League matches in a row for the first time in the 2019/2020 season, with the Athenians having defeated Panionios 3-0 at the OAKA last week. The last time when Panathinaikos emerged victorious in two league games on the bounce was in April 2019 against Apollon Smyrnis and Aris.
