According to various reports in the Greek media, the Super League has proposed to cut annual salaries by 25% if the 2019/2020 season is subsequently completed, or by 33% in the event that the campaign is permanently cancelled. The season is currently suspended as a result of the coronavirus pandemic which has halted nearly all sporting championships across the world.

The Super League working group and the Panhellenic Professional Football Players Association held a conference call to discuss the proposal.

However, the players’ trade unions are unlikely to issue the green light for the measures to be introduced, with footballers feeling that they don’t deserve to lose such a big chunk of their salaries. Representatives of AEK, Olympiacos, Panathinaikos and PAOK will reportedly speak about the matter in more detail in a conference call on Monday evening.

Negotiations concerning the salary cut will continue until a compromise is found.

Sport FM reported that Super League clubs are all in favour of the salary cuts.

There is a likelihood that the Super League playoffs and playouts will begin in June. All teams have been granted official permission to return to group training sessions from Tuesday.
