Team Maciulis grabbed the lead early and held on for a narrow 109-104 win in Sunday’s EKO All-Star Game at the Dyo Aorakia Indoor Hall in Heraklion.

The showpiece of the Basket League’s All-Star Weekend festivities, the game began with a tribute to the late Kobe Bryant as both sides conceded possession with 24 and 8 second shot clock violations.

Dinos Mitoglou poured in a game-high 19 points as the Panathinaikos forward enjoyed a 9/9 showing from the field while also adding 4 rebounds and two assists to claim MVP honours.

Nick Calathes managed 6 points and 8 assists as his side fell in the first All-Star Game to feature two captains and an All-Star Draft – a format adopted by the NBA a few years ago.

Perhaps the highlight of the night for Calathes was the moment he shared the court with his seven-year-old son, who hopped onto the court before getting more than an assist from Vassilis Kavvadas for a ‘slam dunk’.

Team Maciulis had built a lead early in the game and although Team Calathes trailed just slightly behind for most of the contest, Team Maciulis refused to relinquish their advantage en route to the win.
