In the weekend’s derby, leaders Trikala took a big step towards promotion as they defeated second-placed Ionikos 1-0. Stamatis’ 62-minute marker proved the difference in a very tight-knitted encounter in Thessaly, with both teams producing far and few chances to score. The result moves Trikala six points clear of second-place Ionikos, who sit on 25 points along with Veria after 14 matches.

Veria moved into join spot for second place, with Ionikos, as they defeated Diagoras 0-1 on the road. The visitors controlled the pace of the match, and a close-range strike from Polyzos 19 minutes from the end gave the Macedonian side all three points. Diagoras remain in the middle of the table in eighth place with 19 points.

Kavala came from behind to celebrate victory on the road by a 1-2 scoreline over Triglia. All the action happened in the space of nine minutes as Fotis opened the scoring for the hosts in the 71st minute before Markopoulos quickly brought Kavala level just four minutes later. The come back was complete ten minutes from time as Orfanidis scored the winning goal for the visitors, who now sit only two points behind second place with 23 points. On the other hand, Triglia are in the relegation zone in 11th place with 12 points.

In other action, both sides from Volos, Olympiacos and Niki, were victorious as they defeated Aspropyrgos (4:1) and Thesproto (0:1), respectively. A sole goal from Tsiligris in the fifth minute was enough for Egaleo to come away 0-1 victors away to bottom of the table Kalamata.

The match between Ialysos and Ierapetra was postponed.
