SUPER LEAGUE - MATCHDAY 17
Xanthi began 2020 in the best possible way on Sunday by coming from a goal down against Larissa to eventually win 2-1 and move into the Super League top six, while basement club Panionios slumped to yet another loss, 1-0 at home to Lamia.

Jordan Faucet was the hero for Kiko Ramírez’s team, scoring two goals in two second half minutes after 67 and 68 minutes to turn the match on its head after Larissa had went in front through Radomir Milosavljevic’s 64th-minute strike.
The result means Xanthi moved up four places from 10th into sixth spot with 23 points, while Larissa were knocked down one place to eighth.
HIGHLIGHTS
More woe for Panionios
Panionios kicked off their Super League 2020 commitments with a desperately disappointing 1-0 home reverse against 10-man Lamia, with the visitors still taking all three points despite playing for over an hour with a numerical disadvantage.
The Panthers fell behind after just 11 minutes courtesy of Tasos Karamanos’ goal at the Nea Smyrni Municipal Stadium, but were then handed a boost when the visitors had Danny Bejarano red-carded.
But despite applying periodic pressure to the visitors’ goal, Panionios simply could not find a way through and slumped to a fifth successive defeat, the kind of form which has them quite rightly at the bottom of the table.
Panionios prop up the Super League with just six points collected so far in their 17 matches and only a minor miracle would prevent Nikos Papavasiliou’s team from dropping out of the top flight in May.
