On Tuesday, AEK released this following statement:

“AEK FC announces the signing of Damian Szymanski on loan from Akhmat Grozny with the right to purchase him in the summer.”

“I am very happy to join AEK,” stated Szymanski during his maiden interview with AEK. “This is a big step in my career, and I would like to thank the technical director and the club’s staff for the opportunity. I want to show my quality on the pitch. I believe that I can help the team achieve its goals. I know a lot about AEK, I recently watched the game against PAOK, this team plays nice football. I believe that AEK will help me return to the Polish national team for UEFA Euro 2020.”

In January 2019, Szymanski made the move to Akhmat from Wisla Plock in his native Poland, but the central midfielder didn’t settled in the Russian Premier League. In the current campaign, the 24-year-old only competed in four league matches, and Chechen club Akhmat were willing to let him go.

In the past, Szymanski has also represented Belchatow and Jagiellonia.

The 24-year-old defensive midfielder will be expected to add more presence to the AEK midfield.
