PAOK are under pressure to emerge victorious against AEK after their maiden Super League loss in 52 games last week to Aris. The Dikefalos tou Vorra certainly begin the battle as favourites, but under the guidance of Massimo Carrera, AEK are slowly finding more stability on the pitch as they aim to keep pace with the top two. AEK are currently nine points behind second-placed PAOK.

Abel Ferreira shared his expectations during an interview with PAOK TV:

How to recover from the defeat to Aris: “First of all, our biggest motivation has always been the badge on our chests, now the record. Nothing matters more than representing PAOK. Our pride and honour serves as the biggest motivation. Now, with the help of our supporters, we want to win again. This is a derby, so you have to play with intelligence while analysing the opponents in detail. Let’s go for the win.”

What he expects from AEK: “We are prepared for both of the two formations which AEK might use. Even in games when they have changed their system, AEK generally still play the same style of football. We must neutralise all of AEK’s strengths by keeping the ball at our feet. Our identity must stay the same.”

Massimo Carrera, undefeated as AEK manager, doesn’t fear PAOK:

The factor of the Greek Cup game against Asteras Tripolis being postponed: “Not a lot changed. We received the chance to prepare more, working on physical aspects of the game. We are now better prepared for the match against PAOK.”

His first derby on the AEK bench: “We will play in the same manner with our own approach. We understand who we are playing against. We’ll treat PAOK the same as other opponents. In these derbies, the most important factors are our determination, passion and power rather than just tactics. We have to fight hard.”

How PAOK play: “PAOK like to play good football, they have high-quality players in their team. We must be strong and aggressive on the pitch, making life difficult for PAOK. We cannot allow them to play their brand of football.”

AEK still without a derby win since 2018: “It’s important both for the fans and the team to win a derby. We understand the importance of this game. PAOK are a good, strong side, but we also know our own potential. We respect the opponents, but we don’t have any fear.”

What needs to be improved: “In the first half of matches, we’re having trouble moving. Our movement is generally better in the second half. This is an issue which we’ve been working on. The overall organisation of our game has improved.”
