Olympiacos continue European domination

Olympiacos remain in first place out of eight teams in Group A of the LEN Champions League, after comfortably beating Germany’s Spandau 04 13-8 at home.

The Erythrolefki, who held a 4-0 record this season going into today’s match, found themselves surprisingly trailing 0-2 early in the first period against the winless Germans. However, the hosts quickly bounced back to take a 3-2 lead after the first period of play. The score was then level at 5-5 midway through the second period, before Olympiacos scored three unanswered goals late in the period to take a commanding 8-5 lead going into halftime.
The Greeks then extended this lead to 10-6 by the conclusion of the third period. The final score was 13-8 in favor of Olympiacos, who now maintain their undefeated record through five matches. Stylianos Argyropoulos and Maro Jokovic each scored three goals to lead the hosts offensively.
Olympiacos will return to Champions League action on December 3, as they will travel to Spain to take on Barceloneta. The two last played against each other in the semifinals of the 2017-18 competition, with the Greeks prevailing 6-4. The Spaniards currently sit in second place in Group A, so it will likely be a tricky match for Olympiacos.
