This following statement was released by the Hellenic Football Federation:

“The Extraordinary Committee of the Hellenic Football Federation has made the decision to reschedule the first relegation/promotion Super League 1 playoff match between Xanthi and Apollon Smyrnis for Wednesday 26 August at 20:00 after a member of Xanthi tested positive for coronavirus.”

The second leg of the tie is still set to be played on August 29 at the Georgios Kamaras Stadium in Rizoupoli.

Until Saturday morning, no problems concerning the staging of the first match had been reported, but it subsequently became known that a Xanthi representative has tested positive for the COVID-19 infection. The entire Xanthi squad will now spend the next 48 hours in quarantine.

In the 2019/2020 Super League, Xanthi claimed 13th position to avoid direct relegation, while Apollon Smyrnis finished in second spot of the Super League 2. Nevertheless, due to the Super League 2 being cancelled as a consequence of the coronavirus crisis, Apollon haven’t played a game since the first half of March. Xanthi’s last match in the Super League was staged on July 18 against AE Larissa on the road.
