REFUSE TO LOSE

PAOK are clinging on to their unbeaten run for dear life.

On Sunday evening, the Dikefalos tou Vorra were incredibly close to conceding a shock defeat to struggling Panathinaikos at the Toumba Stadium, but Vieirinha converted a last-gasp penalty to salvage a point in a thrilling 2-2 draw. Federico Macheda had given the visitors their second lead in the 87th minute.

PAOK are still unbeaten in the Super League since March 4, 2018, when they lost against Asteras in Tripoli. The streak currently stands at 44 matches.

At the same time, PAOK extended their undefeated run in derbies against teams from either Athens or Piraeus to 10 games (only taking into account Super League matches which were not abandoned):

PAOK - Panathinaikos - 4-0

Panathinaikos - PAOK - 0-3

PAOK - AEK - 2-0

Olympiacos - PAOK - 0-1

PAOK - Panathinaikos - 2-0

AEK - PAOK - 1-1

PAOK - Olympiacos - 3-1

Panathinaikos - PAOK - 0-2

AEK - PAOK - 2-2

Panathinaikos - PAOK - 2-2

This marked the second match in the 2019/2020 season when PAOK salvaged a point from a losing position in stoppage time. On September 22, Aris held a 2-1 advantage until the seventh minute of injury time when Josip Misic smashed a volley into the net.

OLYMPIACOS FAIL TO SCORE IN XANTHI

Following their impressive derby win against AEK, Olympiacos were expected to continue their excellent Super League form on Saturday, but the Erythrolefki could only play to a 0-0 draw in Xanthi. Interestingly, Xanthi have now taken seven points from games against AEK, Panathinaikos and Olympiacos this season, not losing any of those three matches.

The last time when Olympiacos failed to score in a Super League game was on October 21, 2018 - a 1-0 defeat to OFI in Heraklion. Olympiacos had then scored in every league match until the 0-0 draw at Xanthi this weekend.

Olympiacos maintained their unbeaten run in the Super League which started in February. Their most recent loss in the domestic championship was a 3-1 defeat to PAOK in Thessaloniki on February 10.
