Volley League to resume in July with new format

As just two match days were left in the regular season of the 2019-20 A1 Men’s Volley League before lockdown, the competition is set to resume July 1 with all semifinal matches to be played at OAKA.

Thus, the semifinal matchups will be Olympiacos vs. Foinikas Syrou and PAOK vs. Panathinaikos. The semi final dates are July 1, 3, and 5, and all matches will be played at OAKA in Athens. Teams must win two out of three matches against their opponents in order to reach the final.

Then, the finals will be played July 9, 12, and 15 (if necessary) at the home venues of the participating teams. Once again, there will be a best-of-three series to determine the league champion. Olympiacos are looking for their 30th title in club history, while Panathinaikos are looking for their 19th, PAOK their fourth, and Foinikas Syrou their first. It should be noted that Olympiacos were champions the last two seasons.

Furthermore, it was announced that no teams will be relegated this year. This news comes a relief for Elpida Ampelokipon and Ethnikos Alexandroupolis, as both clubs were expected to face relegation otherwise.
